# Easton P. Goes 5–0, Makes History as Upsets Shake Opening Day
Easton P. opened the NCBA season 5–0 and made history with the first known five-ball throw, taking a commanding #1 ranking. Connor L. finished 3–1, while major upsets shook the standings. Samuel H. nearly produced more “Miracles on Carpet” but fell to 0–3.
# Easton P. Goes 5–0, Makes History as Upsets Shake Opening Day
**By John J. | NCBA News**
The NCBA is officially back—and opening day already produced history.
Fourteen matches were played Wednesday as the new season began with close finishes, multiple upsets and a perfect 5–0 performance from defending NCBA Champion **Easton P.**.
But Easton P.’s record wasn't his only accomplishment.
During his second match against William A., Easton P. became the **first known player in carpet ball history to knock five balls in on a single throw**.
By the end of the day, Easton P. had built a commanding lead atop the NCBA rankings with 462 points, while Connor L. emerged as his closest challenger at 300.
## Five Wins—and One Historic Throw
Easton P. defeated William A. twice, Triston T. twice and Dravon once to finish opening day **5–0 with a +9 ball differential**.
His first meeting with William A. was a narrow 6–5 victory that helped Easton P. climb the rankings.
Their second meeting was different.
Easton P. won 6–3, but the final score was overshadowed by what happened during the match: **five balls fell on one throw.**
No known NCBA player had ever done it before.
*"I knew it was a good throw, but five is something you don't expect to see,"* Easton P. said in a fictionalized postgame interview. *"That's probably going to be one I remember for a while."*
The throw immediately establishes one of the first major records of the new season—and perhaps one of the hardest to break. With only six balls in play, the only possible improvement would be a six-ball throw.
Easton P. finished the day at **462 rating points**, 162 ahead of second place.
## Connor L. Starts 3–0—Then William A. Strikes
For a while, it looked like last season's Easton P.-Connor L. battle would immediately resume.
Connor L. defeated Logan M. 6–5, Samuel H. 6–5 and Ari K. in a 6–6 tiebreak to start **3–0**.
Then William A. handed him his first loss.
With William A. ranked #3 and Connor L. #1 at the time, William A. pulled out a **6–5 upset**, earning an upset bonus and ending Connor L.’s perfect start.
Connor L. still finishes opening day **3–1 with 300 points**, firmly establishing himself as Easton P.’s closest early challenger.
## Triston T. Produces a Major Upset
**Triston T.** finished only 1–3, but his single victory was one of opening day's biggest results.
Ranked #8 at the time, Triston T. faced #3 **Ari K.** and pulled off a **6–5 upset**.
The result earned Triston T. 57 rating points, including a six-point upset bonus.
It also continued an interesting pattern from last season. Triston T. was one of the first players to defeat Connor L. during Connor L.’s rise to the top.
His record may not always show it, but Triston T. has demonstrated an ability to beat elite players.
## Ari K. and Logan M. Finish Dead Even
**Ari K.** and **Logan M.** leave opening day with identical records and identical ratings.
Both are **2–2**.
Both have **199 points**.
And when they faced each other, they couldn't settle it in regulation.
Their match reached a 6–6 tiebreak, where Ari K.—then ranked #6 against #3 Logan M.—won and collected an upset bonus.
Ari K. currently holds fourth while Logan M. sits fifth, setting up one of the closest early battles in the rankings.
## The Miracles Almost Returned
On paper, **Samuel H.’s 0–3 opening day** looks disastrous.
Watching the games told a slightly different story.
Samuel H. had **multiple opportunities to produce another comeback**, repeatedly putting himself in positions where one of his famous "Miracles on Carpet" appeared possible.
This time, none of them were completed.
Connor L. escaped Samuel H. 6–5. Ari K. defeated him 6–4. Logan M. won 6–3.
The difference between 0–3 and a dramatically different opening day was sometimes only a few throws.
Still, close losses don't earn ranking points.
Samuel H. ends opening day at **44 points and #9**, leaving the preseason Top 5 selection with significant ground to recover when NCBA play resumes.
## A First Day to Remember
After 14 matches, the top of the NCBA stands:
**1. Easton P. — 462 (5–0)**
**2. Connor L. — 300 (3–1)**
**3. Rylee — 200 (0–0)**
**4. Ari K. — 199 (2–2)**
**5. Logan M. — 199 (2–2)**
Easton P. owns the early lead.
Connor L. remains close enough to challenge.
Ari K. and Logan M. are separated by virtually nothing.
Triston T. has already produced a major upset.
Samuel H. has already flirted with another miracle.
And William A. has already knocked the #1 player from an undefeated position.
But opening day's lasting image may be five balls disappearing on a single Easton P. throw.
The season is one day old.
A piece of carpet ball history has already been made.
